    Description

This auction is for an Antique Sandwich Glass Clambroth Glass Pressed "Tulip" Whale Oil Lamp, The Boston and Sandwich Glass Co., c. 1845 - 1870. This is a rare clambroth glass whale oil lamp in a very attractive pattern. This example has a pressed tulip font and a monument base, with the font and the base joined by wafers. This lamp is listed in "A Guide To Sandwich Glass Whale Oil Lamps and Accessories", by Barlow and Kaiser, plate # 2147, where the pair pictured booked for ,200 in clambroth glass. This lamp was reproduced during the middle of the 20th century, so Barlow and Kaiser featured a whole page to this one lamp. There are several subtle differences between the original and the reproduction. The reproduction has a fake wafer, which is a strip of glass wrapped around the columns. This one has a real wafer. The reproduction has tulips that are straight, horizontal. The original lamp the tulips are slightly tipped up. This lamp has tulip petals that are slightly tipped up. The reproduction has 16 beads on each side of the square base. The original has 17 beads. This lamp has 17 beads. So I am sure that this lamp is the rare original and in very good condition! This lamp came to me with a two tube whale oil burner which is probably original to the lamp. This rare clambroth glass whale oil lamp is offered here with no reserve and a Buy It Now. DIMENSIONS: The lamp stands 12 3/8" H. x 4 3/16" Dia. at the font and 4 5/16" Sq. at the base. CONDITION: The condition is very good with some small chips and nicks to the base and wear commensurate with age. The glass does show the imperfections found in all early flint glass. This includes; bubbles, straw marks, striations and bits of sand. SHIPPING: Buyer pays actual shipping costs based upon the 4 pounds and 12 ounces weight and postal zone. Please use the shipping calculator within this listing to calculate postage within the continental United States. This includes professional packing with USPS Mail delivery.
