Rare Antique Sandwich Glass Translucent Blue Glass Covered Basket Toothpick Holder Pomade Jar, The Boston and Sandwich Glass Co., Sandwich, MA., c. 1850-1870. This covered pomade jar or egg cup is a very rare and beautiful piece of early American pattern glass. This is an unlisted color for this rare form in the Sandwich Glass books I own. This has a very specific basketweave design with an embossed handle on both sides. This pomade jar is illustrated in "A Guide to Sandwich Glass - Witch Balls, Containers and Toys" by Barlow and Kaiser, plate 3280b. CONDITION: The overall condition is very good with minimal roughness and some tiny nicks around the lid rim. The pictures show a "U" shaped dark mark, this is NOT a hairline crack but a bit of darker colored glass embedded within the blue color.
