Description
This is a beautifully handcrafted by accomplished brazier, Peter Goebel, owner of Goose Bay Workshops in DE, USA.
His initials and GBW is easily seen on bottom-they appear to be hand inscribed, not stamped!
Mr. Goebel's work has been purchased by many museums and used in many period films including: Outlander, The Patriot, John Adams, Master & Commander as well as dozens of notable living history museums in the USA. See their website for credits. This item has been well researched, documented and this reproduction made by Mr. Goebel.
This is an older version of what they now have on their website-
it is crafted in tin
. This is an outstanding item for any literate 18th century reenactor to have on their person, or great for a period dressed room or museum vignette/exhibit.
Comes complete as originally sold with 2 cut goose quill pens, and nearly full ink bottle set into base
( bottle does not remove, you refill ink with a small funnel into top of bottle). **Goose Bay workshops still sells replacement quills to fit and they are very affordable. Many sutlers carry liquid ink as well so this whole kit can last you your lifetime if you treasure it.
This is an older piece (bought in late 80s early 90's if memory serves right) and does show some signs of well loved use, the tin has some aging patina to it which in our opinion only adds to its period look and presentation. There is a reminder from Goose Bay Workshops that the quills should be stored standing up as shown and cork must be seated well into the bottle before putting the top tin cover back on. Cover stays firmly on once slid over top onto base.
This is indeed beautifully made!!
What a fabulous birthday, anniversary or Christmas gift!
